Last time, we zoomed out to explore the vastness of the stars and caught a glimpse of God's immeasurable greatness. Today, we do the opposite, we zoom in and turn our attention inward to explore one of God’s most astonishing and intimate creations: you.
Formed And Filled
Genesis 2:7 (NKJV)
[7]And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.
In this verse, we see the blueprint of human origin: formed from the dust of the earth (his physical habitation), filled with the breath of life (divine impartation of being).
When God formed man, He didn’t just sculp the appearance of Adam, He engineered a masterpiece, a system of purpose.
Every part of you: your bones, organs, cells, etc was formed with precision and purpose. The Hebrew word for form is יָצַר (yaw-tsar) which means to shape, fashion, or purposefully mold. It is used for a potter shaping clay (an intentional purposed process).
Precision At Every Scale
I am not a biologist, but I love finding God’s fingerprints in the hidden details of life. Every part of our biology is a very complex system working in harmony and designed with divine intention. Keep reading you will be amazed!
Did you know:
The human body contains about 60,000 miles (96,000 km) of blood vessels. If you stretch all your blood vessels they are long enough to wrap around the Earth … twice!
Your body contains approximately 37 trillion cells (37,000,000,000,000). A single cell’s DNA if stretched out would be about 2 meters long! How can something so long fit in something so small?
If all the DNA in your body were stretched, it could go from the Earth to the Sun and back over 600 times!
The adult human skeleton is made up of around 206 bones and your skeleton regenerates about every 10 years.
The human body has over 600 muscles that work in coordination, including your heart, which beats about 100,000 times a day.
The human body has about 7 trillion nerves (7,000,000,000,000).
Your eyes can distinguish million of colours. They blink approximately 13,000 times in a day.
Psalms 139:14 NKJV
[14] I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.
We could go on and on but let’s just acknowlege and praise God!
More Than Air
God formed man and then filled him. When God breathed into Adam, He didn’t just fill his lungs with oxygen, He imparted intellect, consciousness, purpose, will, reason, and identity. Adam became a living soul.
To fully grasp this, let’s consider the moment God introduced Himself to Moses:
Exodus 3:14 NKJV
[14] And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ”
The Hebrew phrase for I AM WHO I AM is very powerful. It can be rendered as:
I Am the One Who Is
I Am Being Itself
I Am Existence
God wasn’t just giving a name. He was making a declaration of eternal being. In that moment, He was telling Moses and us “I am The Being”, “The One who exists”. God is the Headquarter of existence, the Source from which all life flows, The Being that brings others into being. Wow!
As Acts 17:28 later puts it:
Acts 17:28 NKJV
[28] for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’
Everything that lives draws life from Him. So now I understand the breath God breathes into Adam was divine impartation of existence itself. Theologians call this Imago Dei (humans are created in the image of God and reflect His attributes).
You Are A universe
We are often amazed at the cosmos when we look up in the sky and rightly so. But if the universe reveals God’s majesty on a cosmic scale, you reveal God’s glory on a cellular scale.
As we saw in previous posts, just as Earth is precisely positioned in space to sustain life, you too are precisely formed to carry life. To think. To feel. To love. To worship.
Take a moment today. Feel your heartbeat. Blink your eyes. Inhale. You are not random.
You are a universe within a universe.
Psalms 103:1 NKJV
[1] Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Such a great read! 🥰
